If your teeth aren’t properly aligned, orthodontic treatments can have numerous health benefits including making teeth easier to clean, protecting teeth from damage, making it easier to chew, and preventing headaches due to stress to the TMJ. Two popular methods of straightening teeth out are conventional braces and Candid Pro clear aligners. Here’s a brief overview of the pros and cons of each to help you decide which option is best for you.
What Is the Difference Between Conventional Braces and Candid Pro?
The main difference between Candid Pro and traditional braces is the processes by which they straighten your teeth. For metal braces, a bracket is cemented to each tooth. A metal wire is run through each bracket, and the tension of the wire pulls the teeth into a better alignment over time. Candid Pro, on the other hand, uses a sequence of custom-made clear aligners (also called trays) to straighten the teeth. Each set of aligners pushes the teeth slightly more into a better alignment. In either case, the end result is a beautifully realigned smile!
When Would Traditional Braces Be Best?
Metal braces can be used in many cases that are too complex for clear aligners to handle. Also, since they cannot be removed from the teeth, patients will not have to worry about losing trays or neglecting to wear them enough. Patients should see their orthodontists every month for a checkup to see how the teeth are shifting and have the wires adjusted accordingly. The cost of metal braces varies from client to client, ranging between $1,800 and $5,500.
When Are the Benefits of Candid Pro?
Candid Pro clear aligners are completely removable, so they don’t come with any of the dietary restrictions that traditional braces require. They are also virtually invisible, which can make them much more fashionable than traditional braces. Clear aligners also have no pointy metal parts, so there’s no risk of them poking at and creating sores in the mouth’s soft tissues. Treatment times typically range between six and eighteen months, and the average cost is about $5,000 for a treatment. These trays must be removed before eating and hygiene and they must be cleaned before they are put back in.
Both traditional braces and Candid Pro will require the patient to wear a retainer to maintain their results after treatment. Consulting with your orthodontist can give you the final verdict on which option is right for you.
